Indian thali-meal of the day, all you can eat....15 rupees (about 20p) and usually freshly made before your very eyes. Check and see if you're happy with the hygene and the freshness of fruit and veg which are usually bought fresh at the market every morning. Be especially careful to check the meat and fish-if you're not quite sure-head on to the next eatery, local customers are a good sign-they're not likely to put up with sub standard food.
Forget the tourist restaraunts and their dodgy fridges and their Mystery Kitchens round the back where you can't check them-local food is what you eat to avoid Gandhi's revenge and save money....Enjoying local food is one of the great delights of travelling-it's amazing what delicious and varied dishes can be cooked with such basic facilities.
